What is an Encounter?

Home   What is an Encounter?

An Encounter Weekend is a dramatic experience that completely changes the course of our lives. All of us have already experienced many important milestones, or encounters, in our lives: falling in love and getting married, being accepted into a university, obtaining a job, etc. But of all the encounters we could have, the most important one is an encounter with the living God! Matthew 16:26 says, “What good will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”

An Encounter Retreat presents a series of experiences and personal teachings that result in visible, manifested change in lives of all who participate. It offers people an environment and opportunity that allows them to discover how to establish their relationship with God, how to have direct fellowship with Him, and how to commit to His Lordship in their lives.

Participants are given the opportunity to receive the assurance of Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. They are taught the claims of the Gospel and experience forgiveness of sin, deliverance from bondage, emotional and physical healing, and restoration of worth and value. They also learn how to walk in the blessings of a covenant relationship with God and His family.

Being a Christian means to live by God’s word – learning it, personally experiencing it, and obeying it. The bible gives us many examples of people who did just that and were radically transformed by their personal encounters with the Lord Jesus. Remember the stories of the Samaritan woman (John 4:5-29), Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10), the Gadarene demoniac (Matthew 8:28-34), and all the Disciples of Christ. After each of these people had an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, they were never the same again. Consequently, we can be assured that when we, too, have an encounter with him, we will never be the same.

It is our desire and prayer that every person that attends an encounter weekend will seize the opportunity to experience God. The results will be manifested in transformed lives – lives that are saved, forgiven of sin, set free, and healed, by the power of the living God, Jesus Christ the Lord!

IMPORTANCE OF HAVING AN ENCOUNTER

    • God will impart life to each person who participates in the encounter.
    • Those in attendance will receive direction and understand God’s true purpose for their lives, which begins with a revelation of the cross.
    • All participants must attend the encounter with a completely open heart and with the purity and simplicity of a child, in order to receive everything God wants to minister to them.
    • During the encounter it is crucial that you lay aside all types of arguments, wrong concepts and prejudices against God. If not, they may hinder you from receiving what God is trying to offer you.
    • You will experience victory in many areas of your life: personally, professionally, and in your family relations.
    • You will also experience the over-comers victory in your internal conflicts and struggles. Through the encounter the war that is being fought in the spiritual realm will be won!
    • Note that there are Demonic forces that often oppose an encounter. These evil spirits will try to prevent the occurrence of the encounter and deter individuals from attending. Prior to attending an encounter, some persons find that:
      • they suffer from depression
      • are filled with rage
      • behave strangely and are not sure why

  • ¬†All these behaviours are the work of the enemy and are geared to keep God’s people from the glorious life changing experience to be had with the Lord.
  • You will also experience death in your old nature and resurrection and newness of life in Christ.
  • It is God’s desire for us to have a great time, in which we briefly remove ourselves from certain activities and distractions in order to hear the voice of God more clearly.
